ACS Advocates for SIDS at 2024 UNCTAD Global Supply Chain Forum
Safiya Reid, the ACS officer in charge of the Directorate for Transport, Trade, and Sustainable Development, attended the 2024 UNCTAD Global Supply Chain Forum in Bridgetown, Barbados, from May 21 to May 24. The forum aimed to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the development of innovative strategies to optimize supply chain operations amid a rapidly evolving business environment.
As a panelist, she highlighted the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as a result of ocean carrier consolidation, advocating for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements to enhance regional shipping and logistics solutions.
During her intervention, she emphasized the importance of streamlined trade facilitation procedures and the importance of fostering an enabling environment for intra-regional trade growth.
