Collaborative Webinar Explores SDG Data and Blue Economy Opportunities in the Caribbean
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago — 31 October 2025
The Association of Caribbean States (ACS) co-organized the webinar “Advancing SDG Reporting for the Blue Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean” alongside The University of the West Indies (UWI), the SDG Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (CODS) at Universidad de los Andes, and the Caribbean Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
The event highlighted significant blue economy initiatives underway across the Caribbean Sea and examined opportunities to strengthen data collection in support of SDG Index reporting. Held within the context of the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, the webinar underscored the global potential of restoring degraded ecosystems—estimated to generate up to US$9 trillion in ecosystem services and remove up to 26 gigatons of greenhouse gases by 2030.
Participants discussed current gaps, including financing challenges, and explored ways to enhance regional collaboration to improve SDG-related data for the Caribbean region. Through this collaboration, the ACS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable development and promoting coordinated action to strengthen the blue economy across the Greater Caribbean.
