The UN General Assembly reiterates its call for an end to the US embargo against Cuba

The UN General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly, with 187 votes in favour, two against (United States and Israel) and one abstention (Ukraine), against a resolution urging the United States to end the economic, commercial and financial embargo it has imposed on Cuba since 1960. This request has been repeated annually since 1992, without success so far.
The resolution, submitted by Cuba, requires countries that maintain similar laws and measures to repeal or rescind them as soon as possible. It also requests the UN Secretary General to continue to prepare annual reports on the effects of the embargo, stressing that these sanctions represent a significant obstacle to Cuba's sustainable development.
At its successive Summits of Heads of State and/or Government, the Association of Caribbean States has repeatedly called for the end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, its sister nation.
It is indeed regrettable that in spite of the almost unanimous vote against it at the UNGA annually, this most unjust instrument remains in place.
The ACS vehemently reiterates the Call made at its:
9th Summit , May 2023: “to the government of the United States to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade that it imposes on Cuba, which has been intensified in the context of the pandemic, including its extraterritorial application, and, contrary to International Law, causes great harm to the wellbeing of the Cuban people”;
8th Summit, March 2019: ”Reaffirms the appeal to the government of the United States of America to put an end to the economic, trade and financial embargo it imposes on Cuba, and to repeal the Helms-Burton Act and stop its extraterritorial enforcement”.
7th Summit, June 2016: “…Reiterates its deepest rejection to the application of unilateral coercive measures and reaffirms its call to the Government of the United States to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on that sister nation, repeal the Helms-Burton Law and cease its extraterritorial application.”
