Official Handing Over Ceremony between the Incumbent Secretary General and the Secretary General Elect

The Official Hand Over Ceremony between the Incumbent Secretary General, His Excellency Ambassador Alfonso Múnera and Secretary General Elect Her Excellency Dr. June Soomer was held yesterday, Thursday July 28, 2016 at the Secretariat of the Association of Caribbean States, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Ambassador Múnera addressed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Permanent Representatives of ACS Member States and Associate Members, together with ACS staff members. He gave a special farewell and expressed his love and appreciation for the Greater Caribbean Region and his pleasure to be passing the mantle on to a fellow historian. Dr. Soomer, who hails from Saint Lucia, signed the hand over documents and gave an inspiring speech expressing her appreciation of the work done by Ambassador Múnera and the ACS team to revitalize the ACS. Being a professional of “many firsts”, Dr. Soomer is committed to the region and to ensuring the ACS’ role in its continued growth and prosperity. Greetings were also given by the various Ambassadors and delegates present, as they gave best wishes to Ambassador Múnera and welcomed the new Secretary General of the ACS, Dr. June Soomer, assuring her of their continued support.
