Secretary General Sabonge pays Courtesy Call to Guyana High Commission

Secretary General of the ACS Rodolfo Sabonge met with Acting High Commissioner of the Cooporative Republic of Guyana Maharine Deborah Yaw at the High Commission today and discussed plans for the Association of Caribbean States.

SG Sabonge paid a courtesy visit to the High Commission in Port-of-Spain. They discussed the impact of COVID-19 on Guyana and the countries of the Greater Caribbean, priority areas of work for both the ACS and Guyana.

SG Sabonge said, “I hope that we can strengthen the relations with the Membership of the ACS. A lot of countries are going through difficult circumstances. Transportation, trade and logistics are the areas that I bring as part of my tool box.”

Acting High Commissioner Deborah Yaw “I wish to formally convey congratulations of the Republic of Guyana to you on assumption of office to the Secretary General of the ACS. You have the full support of the government of Guyana and they send you warmest wishes.” She also spoke about Guyana’s interest in capitalising on its new-found oil and gas potential, while continuing to diversify the economy. High Commissioner Yaw also discussed Guyana’s plans for expansion in transport infrastructure and technology in agriculture.

Guyana has been a Member of the ACS since its establishment in 1994. At present Guyana is rapporteur on the special committees for Disaster Risk Reduction and Trade Development and External Economic Relations.
