Area: 13,864 square kilometres The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a chain of approximately 700 islands and over 2,000 cays and rocks stretching from the east coast of Florida to just North of Cuba and Haiti. The principal islands are New Providence (where the capital Nassau is located), Grand Bahama , Andros, Eleuthera and Great Abaco. Tourism and banking are the most important economic activities. The agriculture, forestry and fishing sector employs approximately 5 per cent of the working population and contributes 3 per cent of the GDP. Industry employs 13 per cent of the work force and contributes 10 per cent of GDP, while the services sector employs 82 per cent of the workforce and contributes 87 per cent of GDP.
