Greater Caribbean Art of the 21st Century

Port of Spain (October 22, 2007) – The Association of Caribbean States (ACS), will present its third Art Exhibition entitled “Greater Caribbean Art of the 21st Century”, at the Main Concourse of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 26th October to 23rd November from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Although the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) is better known as an organisation for consultation, cooperation and concerted action in the areas of Trade, Transport, Sustainable Tourism and Natural Disasters, one of the Association’s objectives is to contribute to the development of a Caribbean identity.

In keeping with this objective, the ACS Secretariat has developed, since 2004, cultural activities in the headquarter country (Trinidad & Tobago) establishing rapprochement among ACS Member Countries. This exhibition is therefore an opportunity to learn about the different states that constitute the Greater Caribbean region through the eyes of their artists.

This collection features over 130 works by 63 artists from 10 ACS Member States, including Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and other art pieces from the Associate Member States, France, represented by artists from Martinique; and the Netherlands Antilles.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps resident in Trinidad and Tobago, Government Ministers and officials, representatives from the countries whose works will be on display, private sector individuals and members of the art fraternity will be in attendance at the inauguration of the exhibition on Thursday 25th October.
