ACS celebrates 12 years with the works of the master Fernando Botero

Port of Spain (September 26, 2006) – The 12th Anniversary Retrospective Exhibition and Exposition of reproductions of the works of Colombian Master, Fernando Botero, were opened to the public on the evening of September 18, 2006, at the Simón Bolívar Auditorium in the Venezuelan Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

As articulated by ACS Director Manuel Madriz in the short opening ceremony that evening, the Retrospective Exhibition provides “glimpses of some of the most memorable occasions and accomplishments of our organisation’s history.” Mr. Gilberto Jaimes, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Trinidad and Tobago, also shared his views on the importance of culture as an integrating element among the peoples of the Greater Caribbean.

A special message from the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Mr. Camilo Reyes, was delivered by ACS Communications Officer, Denise Lewis Martínez, in which the Colombian government welcomed those present to the exposition which “illustrates the magnitude of the contribution made to contemporary art by one of the most renowned Colombian artists of all times - Mr. Fernando Botero”, and affording the public “an appreciation for the originality of his language and his innovative treatment of volume.”

The double exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Government of the Republic of Colombia, the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Trinidad and Tobago and the ACS Secretariat and was initially inaugurated by the Ambassador of Colombia to Jamaica, His Excellency Kent Francis James, at the Cascadia Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on Friday 8 September, 2006.

The 39 framed Botero posters form part of an itinerant exhibition organised by the Colombian Foreign Ministry and has been presented to audiences worldwide, including those in France, Spain, Germany and Japan.

The Botero exhibition, together with photographic exhibition on the ACS’ 12 years, will be open to the public until September 29 at the Simón Bolívar Auditorium at the Embassy of Venezuela on Victoria Avenue in Port of Spain.
