Secretary General, Dr. Rubén Silié, in presenting his report to the meeting, made reference to a number of initiatives being undertaken by the Secretariat, one of which is the Creation of the Follow-Up Commission for the Caribbean Sea Initiative. The composition, work plan and strategy of the Commission was subject to lengthy debate today, given that the sub regional groups within the ACS are yet to name their representatives to the 15 member Commission. The group is to be composed of 2 national representatives from each the following groups: CARICOM, Central America, Non-Grouped, Associate Members and the Group of 3, together with the ACS Secretary General, a representative of the Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and 3 experts to be named by the ACS Secretary General, after consultation with the membership. This group is slated to meet next September 11, 2006, at the ACS Secretariat, to formally establish the Commission.
