Never give up on the dream

PORT OF SPAIN ( February 9, 2006) – During his recent visit to Martinique, the Secretary General, Rubén Silié, visited the renowned and illustrious politician and man of letters, Aimé Césaire.

In addition to the honour of meeting this intellectual giant, the great surprise was in discovering that in his nineties, he still expresses his talent with lucidity.

He recognised the Association of Caribbean States as the organisation that is most called to work for unity in the Greater Caribbean.

Rubén Silié expressed his personal admiration to the wise Martinican for the originality of his intellectual work, which has made such a contribution to shaping the Caribbean identity, as have his struggles to overcome colonialism and to honour the dignity of African descendants.

Césaire urged Silié not to give up on the dream of uniting the Caribbean, and in accomplishing this task, he pleaded for Haiti to never be forgotten.
