Rubén Silié expressed his personal admiration to the wise Martinican for the originality of his intellectual work, which has made such a contribution to shaping the Caribbean identity, as have his struggles to overcome colonialism and to honour the dignity of African descendants. Césaire urged Silié not to give up on the dream of uniting the Caribbean, and in accomplishing this task, he pleaded for Haiti to never be forgotten.
