During the interview, the Ambassador spoke of the impending signing of the Framework Co-operation Agreement with the ACS. He also indicated that his government had undertaken to pledge the sum of US$35,000.00 to co-finance the ACS Maritime Transport project entitled “Map of Maritime Routes in the Greater Caribbean”. The objective of this project is to produce an updated map of the main maritime routes in the Greater Caribbean, which will provide regional and international importers, exporters, buyers and sellers with key information regarding the movement of goods. Apart from an expected increase in intra-regional maritime trade and an improvement in overseas linkages, the project will also allow the ACS to determine whether or not there are areas within the Greater Caribbean territory without maritime services, and also whether the existing companies adequately meet the region’s maritime transport needs. This project is expected to come on stream during the first half of this year.
