EX-PRESIDENT ROBINSON TO BE HONOURED BY ACS HEADS OF STATE

PORT OF SPAIN ( June 28, 2 005) – Heads of State and/or Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) will pay homage to the former President of Trinidad and Tobago, H.E. Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson, SC, TC, OCC, at their 4 th Summit in Panama City, Panama on July 29, 2005.

The Permanent Representative of Panama to the ACS, Mr. José Rodrigo de la Rosa, personally delivered Robinson’s invitation yesterday from the President of the Republic of Panama, His Excellency MartínTorrijos Espino,in which the Panamanian President reiterated the ACS’ honour to recognise the former Chief of State for his invaluable contribution to the public institutions of the Caribbean and for his long and distinguished trajectory of service to the region.

 

The ex-President was very pleased to receive the invitation and accepted it, expressing his wish to participate in the ceremony to be given in his honour, as well as in the parallel activities being organised by the Government of Panama in relation to the 4 th Summit.

The Secretary General of the ACS, Dr. Rubén Silié Valdez, at a meeting with the former President two weeks ago, confirmed the organisation’s commitment to honouring a man of such intellectual acuity, strong principles, deep faith and personal bravery, who has shown tireless commitment to fundamental human rights and social justice in Trinidad and Tobago, the Greater Caribbean and indeed, the whole world.
