BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS TO THE TUNE OF 5 MILLION DOLLARS ON SUCCESSFUL DAY
OF 5th GREATER CARIBBEAN BUSINESS FORUM


(PORT OF SPAIN 11.04.04) The 5th Greater Caribbean Business Forum of the ACS drew to a close with excellent results. Over a three-day period the event brought together more than 300 businessmen and women from the Greater Caribbean region, in the Marién room of the Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

 

Two hundred and forty three companies from eighteen countries, twelve being ACS member countries, participated in the event. These included Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. Additionally, companies from Germany, the USA, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Argentina also participated.

The automobile spare parts sector received the largest number of business meetings. With respect to the largest number of companies, the prominent sectors were the agricultural sector, food and beverages.

As a result of the business meetings, estimated sales of two million dollars (US $ 2,000,000.00) were realised in the form of automobile parts produced in Colombia, the sale of greenhouse equipment made in Cuba to private companies, offer of representation for the purchase of cigars and tobacco between Dominican and Cuban companies, sale of avocados produced by the cooperative in the southern region of the Dominican Republic to the company Fecoscan, of Curacao.

Additionally, investment proposals were presented in certain areas, such as the maritime sector, with a European-funded tourist complex for 4,000 rooms. In the area of energy, several projects were presented with respect to the generation and distribution of electricity from emerging technology and renewable resources, as well as the construction of private clinics in Belize by a Dominican Group, among other things
