ACS NEWS RELEASE

Korean Delegation Visits the ACS

(PORT-OF-SPAIN 1.09.04) Director of Trade and acting Head of Mission, Mr. Luis Noriega, and Mr. Juan Fernando Valey of the Natural Disasters Directorate of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) met with representatives of the Korean Delegation – Ambassador at Large of the Republic of Korea, His Excellency Mr. Wung- Sik Kang; accompanied by Mr. Kong, Seok-hwa, Consul and First Secretary of the Korean Embassy in Caracas and Ms. Yu, Jeong-a, Assistant Director of the Central America and Caribbean Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea; to further strengthen bonds of friendship between the ACS and Korea.

 

In the course of the meeting Director Noriega expressed the Association’s deepest gratitude to His Excellency Ambassador Kang, for all the co-operation received from the Government of the Republic of Korea, through the financing of several projects and activities. It was with great honour that Mr.Noriega, presented Ambassador Kang with copies of the CD-Rom on the project “Post-Disaster Financing Mechanisms” of the Natural Disasters Directorate, as part of the collaboration between the ACS and the Korean Government. Ambassador Kang was also presented with the ACS book and publications from the Trade Directorate “Main Trade Trends, Trade Policy and Integration in the Greater Caribbean”, as well as a compendium published by the ACS entitled “Studies on Special and Differential Treatment and the Evaluation of International Competitiveness.”

Director Noriega discussed the possibility of signing a draft framework agreement in the near future, with the objective of expanding co-operation with Korea in the four focal areas of the ACS – trade, tourism, transport and natural disasters.
