Havana, 13th December, 1996

The Ministerial Council wished to publicly acknowledge its recognition to the Government of Guatemala for its efforts in concluding the process of negotiations with the signing of the Final Agreement for a firm and lasting peace between the two parties.

It likewise reiterated its earnest call for and strongest backing of the participation of the United Nations Organization, as requested by the parties in the verification of the commitments undertaken, pursuant to the said Peace Agreements.
