Hemispheric Consultation on Early Warning, 2003

EWC II In 2003, The International Strategy for Disaster Reduction of the United Nations (UN ISDR) brought together several institutions from different parts of the world to: a) hold regional consultations on early warning systems in operation in order to document typical models of these systems, their advantages and disadvantages; b) gather information on experiences and lessons learned.

In the American Hemisphere, the Regional Office of UN ISDR, the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), the Co-ordination Centre for the Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America (CEPREDENAC), the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Response Agency (CDERA), the Regional Disaster Information Centre (CRID), and other institutions have joined forces to present to the public information gathered on the subject of Early Warning.

This CD contains the different contributions made at the Hemispheric Consultation on Early Warning: “Integrate early warning into public policy”. This ended with an event held in Antigua, Guatemala, from 03 to 05 June 2003, and a selection of documents obtained from the bibliographical collection of CRID and the contributions of specialists attending this event.

This CD is a contribution from the American Hemisphere to the 2nd International Conference on Early Warning “Integrate early warning into public policy” to be held in Bonn, Germany from 16 to 18 October 2003.

This product contains a bibliographical selection of over 70 full text documents on early warning. In the section “Contacts and website” it also presents a selection of related websites, and a list of contacts for institutions and experts involved in the area of early warning.

The CD is divided into 6 subject areas: Natural and man-made phenomena. Surveillance and monitoring, local risk management, community participation, health, contacts and website.
